The MCIEA 2008.

Last night I attended the MCIEA 2008 awards presentation dinner together with my colleagues. It was an eventful night, graced the Minister of Works himself, and hosted by CIDB at the CIDB Convention Centre. I met a lot of friends and counterparts last night from the construction industry.

We had earlier participated in the G7 Contractors category, which had some strong competition, including the big boys like Sunway Construction as well as IJM Construction. The category was eventually won by Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad. Dato Wan Zakariah was present personally to collect the award.

Other main awards given out last night included some individual awards. Eversendai's A K Nathan won the CEO Of The Year - thats another amazing award for the big guy, having already won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur award last year too. Eversendai's portfolio had been very impressive; most of them being in Dubai - including the Burj Al-Arab and most recently, the tallest building in the world, Burj Dubai. IJM Corporation Berhad's Dato Krishnan Tan won the Prominent Player award. IJM, had over the years led the country's construction industry and currently has projects all over the world.

The Contractor of the Year for 2008 went to the contractor of the most prominent project of 2008. This most prominent project is none other than the SMART Tunnel, and the winner was MMC-GAMUDA JV. Gamuda's Executive Director and MBAM President, Mr Ng Kee Leen was there to collect the award.

In all, I would like to congratulate all the winners last night.
